Belluno

Belluno is amazingly beautiful, nestled between the Piave and Ardo rivers, at the foot of the Dolomites.

Surrounded by meadows and hills, it welcomes visitors in a unique way. In the historic centre different eras embrace one another harmoniously and in the immediate surroundings you will discover ancient houses made of typical architecture, traditional ‘cortivi’ together with tiny churches containing precious works of art. Mother Nature has certainly made herself at home in Belluno. Part of the territory falls within the Belluno Dolomites National Park and the mountains that surround the city have UNESCO World Heritage status. Belluno is encircled by greenery, touched by water, and crowned by mountains, nestled as it is in the foothills of the Dolomites. Belluno is unique in being the only provincial capital city in Italy situated within a national park, the Dolomiti Bellunesi. Here life is good: so much so that it has topped quality of life charts in consecutive years. Here you can participate in almost any outdoor activity right on your doorstep.

The name of Belluno (nicknamed the “Shining City”) has its roots in Celtic times, in reference to the god of the sun, Beleno, thanks to its shimmering surroundings and beautiful colours. Belluno is awash with light and constantly changing colours, different with every blink of an eyelid. Amazing, unforgettable, adorable.

Belluno can be a discovery. Visitors will appreciate the old town centre, the splendid Dolomite panorama that surrounds the city, the Piave river flowing through it, the wealth of beautiful buildings characterized by the architecture of the early ’900s, the historic attractions and fountains, and the fascinating Civic Museum.

In order to discover the city centre, Belluno offers visitors five thematic walks. Designed to help visitors discover the city’s attractions and artistic and historical heritage, they essentially cover three different areas. The first explores the historical town centre, while the other two commencing from the town centre explore adjoining areas characterized by the early twentieth-century architecture and the areas bordering on the river Piave.
